Some examples of still life studies...
In College I exclusively was using Oil and Canvas as a discipline. Although I enjoyed duplicating what I saw,
such as these still life paintings above, I began to seek something different. I remember challenging myself
to try and completely create paintings without looking or taking anything from what I saw in front of me.
At this time in my creative experience, I said - " I'm just doing what a camera does, when I do a still life"
So I set about creating paintings completely independent of this process. I wanted to tell stories, create a
narrative, a sophisticated cartoon as it were...As a result, below are some examples of this period. These
works were created in this experimental time - still using Oil and Canvas. (Later I would switch to acrylic
and canvas - exploring the pictorial surface in a more fluid style to expression of the human experience).
