..Artist infuses paintings with personality

There will always be artists whose work defies strict categories or definitions. Such is the case with painter David Lindamood, whose artwork combines elements of early cubism with expressionist tendencies and modern illustration.

Artistic intuition is a strong force in Lindamood's work. His sweeping brushstrokes and lines generate a feeling of intense energy and life. "To me it is important for each painting to have a personality," says Lindamood. "I think a lot about painting, composition and color, but when it comes down to it, I mostly paint by instinct and what feels right as I go."

Throughout his education Lindamood was involved in many aspects of printing and illustration, including a few comic strips. He traces his interest back to the time he had an illustration printed in the kindergarten newspaper. After graduating from college, Lindamood began to merge his illustration and cartoon background with the field of fine art. Beyond painting and printing, Lindamood is active in directing and acting in Shakespearean theater as well as writing prose, poetry and music.

Showing: Lindamood will be showing his work in the group exhibition which runs through Sept. 8...The opening reception is Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. Additionally, Lindamood will be one of 10 artists involved in a cultural-exchange exhibition in Sendai, Japan, this fall that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the sister-city relations...

  Artist Statement                                                                          

" For me, these are visual narratives, self-regulated scenes which express events or an awareness within a person's life. In most of my work I employ an inner-play of color, shapes and lines to come together in a way so that the entire painting evolves into an single movement of expression. 

Each application of line, color and shape presents a part of itself to the purpose of this overall moment. I draw on the concept that the smallest particles that we are made of work as one to create us in life as I know it."                                                      

   Biography

As a native Southern  California artist, David Lindamood has taken a unique path:  an accomplished commercial artist, cartoonist, illustrator, published author and musician David applies his scope of visual expression in a musing and figurative - controlled abstraction. With conscious respect for fine art history his work displays a personal and expressive style. Most often his paintings are full of color, lines, faces, figures and satisfying geometric shapes which play upon one another within world of their own.
